Diet Pill Free Trial Horror Stories
You have seen them – You know you have. If you Google ‘diet pills’ or ‘best diet pills’, you are bound to come across a diet pill that offers a “Risk Free Trial”. Well, these Free Trials are far from being risk free. In this article we will explore these free trials and actually read what customers are saying regarding this diet pill deception.
The weird thing about these products is you can’t just buy them. You can’t find them from any other retailer. The only way to get them is through this ‘free trial’. As a consumer you should wonder why they do this. As an individual who has worked in the diet pill industry, I can tell you this, these Acai products are extremely cheap to make. After you pay shipping on these “free trials”, the company is still probably either braking even or making a little money.
If a Diet Pill is “Free” Why Do You Have to Enter Your Credit Card Information?
Good question right? Maybe it is to cover the shipping costs? That is their justification. But really, the only reason why these companies want your credit card is so that shortly after your purchase, they can bill you upwards of $90 plus shipping for your next bottle. By shortly it is sometimes within days of your original order being shipped or delivered.
How Do Diet Pill companies get away with this?
It is not all diet pills that do this. Only deceptive ones. A good diet pill will almost always be backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. All reputable companies that make diet pills all stay away from the “free diet pill” business model because these companies are essentially perpetuating a fraud that can be legally justified by their “Terms and Conditions”. That’s right, the fine print that nobody ever reads, but should. Here are some examples of “Terms and Conditions” from various websites.
Acai Berry Product #1
This site is great. You go there and there is a counter that counts down from 4 minutes. The site is littered with Hollywood types, none of which have given their endorsement for this product. If you fill out the form for the free trial, you are taken to a page where you enter your credit card information. There is no box to check to accept any sort of terms and conditions, so unless you read the fine print you are really screwed. Here is the fine print (I made the font a little larger):
You are starting your FREE TRIAL of xxxxxxxx.
You will be receiving a full one-month supply bottle of xxxxx (which retails for $129.95). You will have 10 days from the date that you place your free trial order with us to cancel your order for any reason. So, essentially, this diet pill is anything but free. And that 10 days they give starts as soon as you submit your order. So if it takes 5 days to deliver, you will have only 5 days to try it. Not nearly long enough to see any results.
Acai Berry Product #2
This site is entertaining as well. Same fake celebrity endorsements. Same references to CNN and other news outlets. The main difference is that there is a box to accept the “Terms and Conditions”. The kicker is that it almost fades into the background so you hardly see it – and the box is already checked. Deceptive? You bet.
I understand that by ordering Acai Berry xyz, I am agreeing to receive Acai Berry xyz for a 14-day trial period (days of availability for actual usage could be less depending on shipping time) beginning on date of order. Three dollars and ninety five cents (non-refundable) for S&P. I understand that unless I cancel by calling 801-528-1391 within this 14-day period, beginning on the 15th day my credit card will automatically be charged eighty nine dollars and thirty one cents (Free Shipping) for a 31 day supply of Acai Berry xyz to be shipped at that time to my door. Thereafter, until and unless I cancel, my credit card will automatically be charged an additional eighty nine dollars and thirty one cents every 31 days for a new supply of Acai Berry xyz. Our hours of operation are from 8am to 5pm MST.I understand that this consumer transaction involves a negative option and that I may be liable for payment of future goods and services, under the terms of this agreement, if I fail to notify the supplier not to supply the goods or services described. We do not accept returns on any products that have been shipped.
So it looks like the main difference is that this diet pill company won’t take any returns for products that have been shipped? They do throw in free shipping, but have fun talking to your credit card company about that $89.31 charge.
Acai Berry Product #3
I wonder if Dr.Perricone realizes that his face is on all of these websites. If you search for anything about these products, 99% of the information is consumer complaints and fraud reports. This website is exactly the same as the others. ABC, CNN, WSJ.com, Perricone, Oprah – they are all cited (most likely without permission). On the order form, there is nothing that makes you have to accept any terms and conditions.
I understand that by ordering xyz Acai Berry., I am agreeing to receive xyz Acai Berry for a 14-day trial period (days of availability for actual usage could be less depending on shipping time) beginning on date of order. $3.95 (non-refundable) for S&P. Unless I uncheck the box above(if available), I would also like to take advantage of the the 21 day bonus trial to PriceLimbo for eight dollars & fifty one cents a month thereafter, should I choose not to call and cancel Price Limbo. I agree to the (7) day bonus trial to Fit Factory for ($29.95) each month thereafter, should I choose not to cancel. This one is the biggest scam of all! You get the diet pill for $89, PriceLimbo(?) for $8 and Fit Factory for $30? Your credit card is about to be charged $130 per month every month. This is absolutely amazing.
Real Free Trial “Horror Stories”
I went to a friends website where he has customers post their feedback about diet pills they have tried. The site is extremely popular and in the past few months it has been bombarded by complaints about Acai Berry free trials. Here are a few that he allowed me to use:
“I am SICK!! I also fell for the acai berry/ total cleanse scam and here is what happened to me. They give you fourteen days to cancel, it took them over ten days just to give it to me then on top of that the phone number was always busy on the bottle when I finally did receive it and NO email address to cance. I saw a pending charge on my bank statement of 83 dollars and some change, I about crapped! I called the number on my bank statement and some girl answered and said she would credit me back THEN instead of putting me on hold she asked someone next to her “I cant figure out how to reverse these charges” girl number 2 days “did she get the bottle?” girl 1 says “yes” girl 2 says “To hell with her, she got the product so dont take it off” I was FURIOUS I said “EXCUSE ME?! I JUST HEARD YOUR WHOLE CONVERSATION, ARE YOU IN A CUBICLE OR TAKING THESE CALLS FROM YOUR HOME? BECAUSE YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO YOUR JOB THE CHARGES ARE STAYING ON MY ACCOUNT?” she said with an attitude “YEP, PRETTY MUCH” and HUNG UP ON ME! Now I have to call them back just to make sure they cancelled it. I am also disputing this with my bank and canceling my cc number so this can not happen again to me next month. Listen ladies you want to clean out your colon? Order some Uni Fiber because that is alot better then dealing with this crap. I have NEVER been so angry over unprofessionalism in MY life!!! Its crap and I am humiliated that I even fell into it. Being fat sucks, so I am going to start walking more and eating healthier that is the sure “miracle” way to lose weight. from: P-oed in Virginia Beach!”
THEY GOT ME AFTER i EVEN CHANGED MY NUMBER!
Okay so i have written on here before.. i got the free trial finally like 4 days ago. I also am reminding every one i got a different bank card number and activated which should automatically cancel my other bank card! WELLLL… today i have a charge from IP-2ENHANCEMYBODY for $89.31. I just called my bank to ask why this fraudulent company is still making charges to my bank account after the DC number i gave acai berry isnt supposed to be available to work.
ALSO THEY GiVE YOUR INFORMATiON TO OTHERS. DO YOU HAVE 800NUMBERS CALLiNG YOUR HOUSE ABOUT YOUR “last 4 digits of your card ****” and saying “YOU EARNED FREE GAS!” yaaa another scam WELL im pissed and good luck to the rest of you.
NOTE: i am only 21 and i am already becoming a fraud victim… tell everyone about this fraud and stop it now from spreading! – Tracy
I can’t believe this company hasn’t been shut down yet! The phone number doesn’t work! I did read the fine print about getting enrolled into an autoshipment plan-but didn’t see the other sneaky part about getting enrolled into the cleasing product as well- and I guess I should have tried the number BEFORE I placed the order for the “free” trial-as it seems to be non-functioning. I finally was able to cancel through a live chat on a different website I found through the BBB- and I also filed a complaint with them. I still went ahead and canceled my credit card- as I don’t trust that they will not try to sneak in fraudulent charges in the future! They SUCK! – Brittney
SCAMMED! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!
Well just like the rest of you, I’ve been scammed by the company I purchased a free trial of Acai Berry and Total Cleanse from. I never saw anything saying I was locking into a monthly charge, but today I checked my account balance online and saw a bogus charge of $88.62. (I haven’t actually received anything from them yet.) I called my bank immediately and the gal there didn’t even want to help me, but I told her I wanted my debit card cancelled TODAY! And, I called the company and guess what, their phone line never rang. All I heard was silence. I called them several times. So I can’t even get in touch with them to cancel. And, if that’s not bad enough, I have thrown away the paperwork so I don’t even have the name of the company. All I know is it’s in Florida! This sucks! –Linda
I ORDERED THE ACUAI BERRY SUPREME TRIAL PACKAGE ONLINE FOR THE LOW SHIPPING PRICE OF $5.95 on October 19, 2008 and did not recive them until November 3, 2008. In the meantime I have been charged $29.95 10/30/200 from Fit Factory and $91.10 from IP Body Supplements before I even received the trial package (November 4. 2008). I wanted to cancel and I have tried to reach someone by telephone but can never get through.
I just received the pills on November 4, 2008 but was already charged $89.31 + $1.79. from IP Supplements on 11/5/08 and $29.95 Fit Factory on 10/30/08. The enclosure states that unless they hear from me within the 14 days of the trial period I will automatically be billed for a 30 day supply. I have reported this charge to my bank and the company will be hearing from my bank. This is clearly a case of misleading information, deliberate late mailing of the trial package and fraud. – Catherine
Living the nightmare…
My wife saw this on Facebook and thought, “wow…this helps you keep from getting cancer and flushes your system and gives you more energy on top of it all!” The whole time I’m thinking to myself, hmmm… this doesn’t sound good. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
When she’s done talking to me about it, I’m off to do a Google search and find out more, and thus my arrival here. I sure hope people read all the way through these reviews because it was quite a ways down the list before I saw the reference to FitFactory. We haven’t seen a CC statement yet but I had her call anyway. Sure enough, after giving name and address we found that we had been billed. This was when she believed it was a scam.
The last message before mine references PriceLimbo.com. How many more are there? Cancel your card people! Watch your statements to make sure nothing shows up that is not expected. Dispute anything that does show up.
The phone numbers listed worked for us but I can’t help wondering if they really cancel anything. Does the confirmation number mean anything? Wouldn’t the scam work better if they just humored us and then lost any evidence that a call was ever made? DING for another month!
CANCEL YOUR CARD! Don’t trust the people you just caught scamming you. – Scott
There are thousands of stories that are similar to the one’s above. My friend has yet to receive a positive review about any acai product. Do they work? Not too sure, but apparently customers are getting charged for a product they don’t want.
So What Should You Do?
If you really want to try one of these products my advice is simple. You have 2 options – (1) use a temporary check card that only has enough on there to cover the shipping charge or (2) go to a supplement store and buy some generic acai pill.
With so many diet pill scams out there it may be hard to trust. The best advice to give you is to try a diet pill that offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and doesn’t refer to the fine print. The truth is there are companies out there perpetuating frauds who only want your money. Then there are companies that want you to lose weight, disclose their ingredients, perform clinical studies and back their diet pill with a guarantee.
