RIYADH: The General Assembly of the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees unanimously reelected Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal as president for a four-year term from 2025 to 2029, during its 23rd regular meeting in Riyadh.

Prince Abdulaziz, also Saudi minister of sport, thanked the leadership for its steadfast support of Arab sports and youth, and its continued efforts to advance the regional sports sector, which have produced positive results across numerous initiatives.

He highlighted the union’s solidarity with Palestine and full support for Palestinian athletes, and added that the Palestinian cause remains deeply rooted in the hearts of Arab peoples.

The assembly also approved Bahrain’s request, in coordination with Saudi Arabia, to host the 18th Arab Games in 2027, while the 19th edition will take place in Saudi Arabia in 2031.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Chief of General Staff Lieutenant-General Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili presented Pakistan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza with a King Abdulaziz Medal of the Excellent Class in Riyadh on Saturday.

The award was made in recognition of Mirza’s efforts to consolidate the bonds of friendship and joint cooperation between the Kingdom and Pakistan and strengthen Saudi-Pakistani relations, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The medal was given to Mirza during a meeting with Al-Ruwaili and in accordance with a royal directive from King Salman.

The two officials reviewed aspects of cooperation in the defense and military fields between their countries and ways to strengthen and develop them in the meeting.A number of topics of common interest were also discussed, SPA said.
